WAX RIBBON
General Purpose Applications
Wax Ribbon contributes to a better “melting” of ribbon, reducing the amount of energy required for printing,
so the wax ribbons to the use of specific papers for thermal transfer printing makes use of low temperature in
the thermal head, increasing its life cycle and reducing maintenance costs. As the wax has a tendency to be
softer than resin, the durability of the image of wax ribbons is lower than in mixed or resin ribbons.
The durability of the image of these ribbons is acceptable for applications that require little physical contact with
the printed image, such as labels on supermarket shelves and stores, and or for the use of bar codes. The Wax Ribbon features an antistatic property which promotes easy handling and a prolongation of the life cycle of the printhead. These ribbons are the cheapest, they usually use a little printhead temperature of 10oC to 12oC
(50oF to 53.6oF) and with good print quality at high speed. Printing on glossy paper, or trans-therm.
WAX-RESIN RIBBON (MIXED)
Special Applications – average adhesion
These ribbons are made up of 50% resin in its composition. Printing with these ribbons requires a greater amount
of energy to print than that of the wax-based ribbons. As resin is harder than wax, the durability of the picture of mixed ribbons is the bigger that those of wax.
The Wax-Resin Ribbon is ideal for applications that require a degree of chemical and abrasive resistance.
They are commonly used in applications for pharmaceutical use. They are more expensive than wax ribbons.
To print on different materials, from paper to synthetics, labels and plastic or paper labels are subject to
abrasion or friction. Packaging of chemicals, contact with water, steam and acid solutions.
RESIN RIBBON
Very Special Applications - High Adhesion
In very special applications ribbons are composed of pure resin and print with exceptional printing quality and resistance in films and special bases.
The durability of the image is excellent, especially in applications that require repetitive use of physical contact
on the printed image (abrasion). They also have excellent resistance to heat and some chemicals, home cleaners, water, heat and UV rays. The purpose includes billboard applications and great length with property labels, power box, integrated circuit board, etc.
For printing on paper or plastic labels, with good resistance to friction, packing for chemicals, contact with water, steam and acid solutions, and for printing on synthetic materials (vinyl, polyester, polypropylene). Resin Ribbon offers unmatched resistance to scratches on synthetic cards, polyester and PVC.
